The occupational therapist supervises a man with a spinal cord injury during a community outing as he practices using public transportation, easing his transition into society. Through occupational therapy, patients being discharged to community living address employment options, such as return to work, career change, education, and training; plan for adaptations needed to eliminate physical barriers; explore the continuation of leisure pursuits and the availability of new options; and learn to use aids to mobility, including a wheelchair.
